[5/20] Twenty-one new teachers!!!  Eighteen technology education majors received the degree of Bachelor of Science in Education this morning at the Hartford Civic Center. They join three new teachers who received their post-baccalaureate certification this semester through CCSU's Technology Education department. Congratulations to all!

[5/8] Human-Powered Vehicle team in ASME HPV event  Eight technology education students and Dr. Sianez debuted the second-generation "Blue Devil" speed vehicle at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

 

[5/5] Students honored  Five technology education majors were presented with awards tonight at the seventeenth annual Student Awards Presentation. Justin Schumacher received our 2006 Departmental Honors,  and four students were presented with scholarships: Steve Fix (wm. Chatfield Scholarship), Ray Frost (CTEA Scholarship), and Carey Poetzsch and Will Plein (G. W. Kecham Scholarship).

[4/5] New professor!! Dr. Michele Dischino will be joining the faculty of technology education in August. Her background includes experience in the utilities, graphic arts, and bioengineering fields. She has also worked with both middle- and high-school students. Originally from New York, Dr. Dischino is currently working at the McKay Orthopaedic Research Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania, where she is developing methods to improve the outcome of tendon injuries through engineering. In addition to her research, she has coordinated educational outreach activities with West Philadelphia public schools, and volunteers at the Franklin Institute Science Museum, where she has seen how much fun technology education can be. She is very excited to be joining the department and looks forward to working with CCSU's talented student body!

[3/27] CCSU places second in national Technology Challenge in Baltimore more information to come...

[3/27] Teacher candidates work with New Britain, Rocky Hill children  On March 3rd, graduate student Ron Plourde and eight CCSU technology education students welcomed 48 fourth- and fifth-graders from Smalley School for a four-hour visit to CCSU. The following week, 45 Smalley second-graders visited us. Also, nine TE majors taught a four-part unit to second-graders at Moser Elementary in Rocky Hill on March 6th and 13th.

[2/20] CCSU wins 2006 TECA-East Technology Challenge and three other awards
Matthew Dablain, Jeff Goric, Brian Higgins, and Maria Ruscitti earned CCSU its third TECA-East Technology Challenge title in five years. The team placed first in a field of twelve, overcoming challenges from teams from Clemson, California University of Pennsylvania, and North Carolina State University. CCSU also won honors in three other events at the Virginia Beach conference, including first place in the Automated Systems event. More details [pdf]

[2/10] CCSU hosts Electrathon meeting; Electrathon dates announced
The meeting was led by Mike Grella, state coordinator, and Gary Konicki, race steward. Sixteen high-school advisors and five high-school students attended, along with CCSU technology education majors Laura Baker and Chris Garratt and technology graduate student Joe Konicki. The 2006 Connecticut Electrathon dates are June 2 and October 20. Electrathon photos and directions...

[1/20] Adjunct instructors named for construction, research courses
Dr. Kenneth Andrew is returning to teach TE 598, our graduate research course. Mr. Robert Lefebvre will teach TE 245, Building Design and Construction. Dr. Andrew is a teacher at Manchester Regional Academy; Mr. Lefebvre teaches at Windsor Locks High School.

Technology Education Students in NAIT contest [11/05] CCSU students John McCandless, Brian O'Neil, and Jonathan Sawn captured second place in the Tele-Operated Robotic Manipulator contest held in St. Louis in conjunction with the annual convention of the national Association for Industrial Technology. John and Jonathan are majoring in technology education; Brian is an industrial technology student.

Maria Ruscitti wins award [10/14/05]

Maria, a CCSU senior, was selected from among students across New England for the 2005 G. Wesley Ketcham Memorial Scholarship. At right, Maria receiving the award on October 14, 2005, from John DeCicco of Massachusetts.

Human-Powered Vehicle Team [10/8/05]

The team won the 2005 Determination and Spirit award at the World Human Power Speed Challenge at Battle Mountain, Nevada.

Dr. Robert H. Thompson: 1936 - 2005 [8/22/05]

A former Chair of Industrial Arts, Dr. Thompson was perhaps best known for his work in the fields of automation and robotics. He began teaching at CCSU in 1966. [Obituary]

[8/22/05]• Mr. Jerry M. Friedman was named Assistant Professor of Technology Education by CCSU President Miller in August.

• Dr. David Sianez, who has been teaching here for two years, was hired as a permanent faculty member.

• Returning adjunct faculty for the Fall are Mr. Michael Cianci and Mr. Neil Foster.
